Christmas or New Year is a time to show everyone your holiday spirit. Decorating your home and garden are prime ways to let your holiday joy shine. While the inside and front exterior of houses often get makeovers during the holidays, gardens are left out.
This year, add some flair to your garden area to complete the holiday festivities.
- Be Cautious!
When hanging lights outside, make sure they are rated for both indoor and outdoor use. It’s also a good idea to inspect every strand of lights (both old and new) to make sure there are no bare or exposed wires. This can prevent electric fires and ensures your family’s safety.
- Decorate Your Fence
Don’t forget to decorate your fence. You can string lights along the top or add lighted sculptures. The fence is an ideal backdrop for lighted signs or displays. Fences are sturdy and can actually be used as a stabilizer for larger decorations.
- Use the Strongest Plants
When hanging any type of ornament or lights, always use the strongest plants. Bushes and plants with thick, woody stems are best because they are more stable and capable of bearing a modest amount of weight.
- Add a Timer
Put your garden lights on a timer. By doing this you don’t have to worry about forgetting to turn them on or off. It will save you time and money and you won’t have to worry about knocking decorations down to get to the plugs.
- Rope Lighting
Rope lighting can be used as a boundary by placing them along the tops of fences. They can also be laid along the ground. If the strands are long enough you can use them to spell out words or create symbols.
Use these tips in accordance with your style to make your house and garden area stand out this holiday season.
