How to Keep Your Fence New with These Do’s and Don’ts

You install a fence to protect your property and to enhance beauty of your home. Your fence makes your guests feel welcome and your home’s entrance more inviting. In fact, your fence is often a person’s first impression about your home.

You know what they say: the first impression is the last impression, and this is true for your fence as well. Normally, it’s our perception to forget about fence once we are through with its installation and,we assume that nothing needs to be done beyond this.

If you do not maintain your fence properly, you are consequently reducing your home’s safety and curb appeal.

In order to maintain your fence properly,you need to know what exactly you should and should not do according to the kind of fence you have.

Here are some Do’s and Don’ts you should follow to maintain your fence:

Do’s

    1. Mow and trim tall grasses and weeds under the fence and also beside the fence.

 

    1. Check your fence every day, and if needed brush its panel with a broom to clean leafs, debris, webs and surface dirt.

 

    1. Clean your fence with light pressure water and mild detergent, and also use small stiff-bristled scrub brush to remove debris. Scrub any major stains or other imperfections.?

 

  1. Repair the damaged fence through fixing it, or by replacing it with a new picket piece of fence, where it is necessary.

Don’ts

    1. Vinyl Fence
      • Never paint a vinyl fence
      • Never place a barbeque next to your vinyl fence
      • Never screw attachments to your vinyl fence as this could void your warranty.
      • Avoid hanging heavy items on your vinyl fence (i.e. potted plants, heavy decoration.)

 

    1. Wooden fence
      • Do not let weed grow.
      • Do not allow algae to grow.
      • Do not use paint on your wood fence, instead use a stain.

 

  1. Wrought Iron Fence
    • Do not leave bubbling or flaking paint.
    • Do not ignore hinges and latches.
    • Do not plant decorative plants near your wrought iron fence.
