Repair or Replace Your Fence: Which Is the Better Idea?

Fences usually do not have to be replaced, as most of the time the problem can be fixed with simple repairs. Usually, the issue is due to wear and tear.

However, when there is a violent thunderstorm or snowstorm that causes utility poles and trees to topple, or a vehicle drives into your fence, you may have to opt for replacement rather than repair.

Here are a few tips when you should look to repair or replace different types of fences:Fence Installation

Wooden Fence
Wooden fence is often affected by rot. You can opt for repair and replacing posts and pickets if the rot is 20 percent or less.

On the other hand, if the rot is extensive and you will be spending a lot of money on repair, it makes sense to have the entire fencing replaced. It is a more financially prudent choice.

Vinyl Fence
Vinyl fence can last a lifetime and is known to be extremely durable. However, if for some reason a portion of the fence breaks or gets damaged, you don’t have to replace the entire fence.

Just the broken section can be replaced without disturbing the rest of the fence.

Wrought Iron Fence
Wrought iron fence is quite an investment. If rust attacks the fence, it is best to treat the rust, rather than replace the fence. This will save you money and ensure the life of the fence extends for several more years.

If you ignore the rust, in some time you will have no option but to replace the fence.

Chain Link Fence
These fences are extremely durable, but with time they begin to rust. The moment you see rust formation, get it fixed. If the rust has affected about 15 percent of the fence, get just those portions replaced.

If the rust is extensive, you will have to replace the entire fence.
